Specialty Classes: Beyond the Main Lesson

Specialty classes are not extras here. They are essentials. Every student, in every grade, receives these subjects from dedicated specialty teachers. A rich education is built from many kinds of mastery, and children meet that mastery through many hands. Childhood is not a race. It is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace that is right for each child.

To ask what specialty classes look like in your child's grade, contact our Enrollment Director, Stacey Alston, at enrollment@waldorfatlanta. org. She can tell you which subjects meet in which grades and how the week is shaped. Bring your questions about your own child. That conversation is the fastest way to picture the days here.

What this looks like in practice

In a typical week, children leave their main classroom and go to a specialty teacher for subjects like music, movement, handwork, or world languages. The room changes, the teacher changes, and the work changes. Children learn to carry themselves in a new space, follow another adult's rhythm, and pick up where they left off last week.

You notice it at home. Your child hums a tune learned in music, or finishes a stitch started in handwork. Skills practiced with one teacher show up in another room. That carryover is the point: many kinds of mastery, built slowly by many hands, until the child owns the work.
